City of Rice Mayor Christi Campbell vs. T-Mobile in a Pickleball Showcase at Rice Summer Bash

updated: 09/03/24

The Rice Summer Bash was a success! The Rice community, City of Rice, and Rice EDC along with our sponsors, celebrated the successful installation of an HVAC system in the Community Gym.

Everyone enjoyed a pickleball showcase featuring T-Mobile representatives and Mayor Christi Campbell and local pickleball players.

There was also a youth basketball 4 vs. 4 tournament – a big thanks to everyone who showed up to play in the cold A/C!

In addition to the sport events in the Community Gym, the EDC hosted Community Resources in the Legacy Event Room where the Rice Volunteer Fire Department, City of Rice, Friends of the Rice Public Library, Rice Community Seniors, Impact Communities, First Baptist Church of Rice, and T-Mobile met with residents and donated to the Stuff the Bus School Supply Drive.

The Rice EDC is celebrating the completion of an HVAC system in the Rice Community Gym at the Rice Summer Bash. This is the first time the facility has ever had a cooling system. The effect will be obvious as people enjoy the festivities in the air conditioned space on a late July afternoon.

The event will feature a Pickleball Showcase between Rice Mayor Christi Campbell and representatives from T-Mobile, a Youth 4 vs. 4 Basketball Tournament with prizes for 1st, 3rd & 4th place, a Stuff the Bus Back to School Supply drive with a waterslide for the kids from Impact Communities, the Rice VFD with their hose set-up for the kids, Community Resources Room, Food Trucks, and family friendly fun.

During the project, a layer of spray foam was added to the wall under the bleachers to cover holes and help things run more efficiently. A thorough cleaning of the floor under the bleachers was required after the spray foam was installed. Thanks to the people who sorted through decades of trash to collect memorable items that had been dropped behind the bleachers over the years. From Coronation Programs to Detention slips, and candy wrappers older than you are – a small piece of the building’s history will be on display during the event.

This community development project was made possible by grants from T-Mobile, Moran Family Foundation, and Impact Communities.
